You forgot your Blockchain.com password, and your last three guesses didn’t work either. Whether that’s a five-minute fix or a serious recovery problem depends on one thing: which Blockchain.com login you’ve lost. Before you press any reset button, take a minute to understand the difference: one wrong click here can disconnect the very wallet you’re trying to reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two logins, two very different problems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Blockchain.com gives you two separate places to hold crypto, and they follow opposite rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first is your Blockchain.com Account, a custodial account, meaning the company holds the private keys<\/a> for you, roughly the way a bank holds your money. Because Blockchain.com controls the keys, its support team can let you back in: password resets and 2FA recovery both work here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second is the DeFi Wallet (the non-custodial wallet, and the successor to the old Blockchain.info web wallet). Here the keys exist only on your side, generated from your 12-word recovery phrase. The password merely unlocks an encrypted copy of the wallet in your browser or app. Blockchain.com never sees that password and can’t reset it, its own support pages say so plainly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the first question isn’t “how do I reset my password.” It’s “which door am I standing in front of.” One door has a spare key at Blockchain.com’s end. The other opens only with what you still have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before you reset anything<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Stop for a moment, because the reset button carries a trap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you reset your password instead of restoring with your recovery phrase, Blockchain.com creates a new, empty wallet and disconnects the original from your account. Your coins aren’t destroyed, the old wallet still exists on the blockchain, but the login that pointed to it is gone, and your position just got worse. Only reset once you’re certain you’re dealing with the custodial Account, or once your phrase is safely in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two more things before any procedure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Check every phone, tablet, and browser where you might still be logged in. Don’t log out of anything.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Write down every password fragment you remember: the base word you tended to use, the numbers, the year, the symbol at the end. That list matters later.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Locked out of your Blockchain.com Account<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    This is the best position to be in. Go to the login page, choose the password reset option, and follow the email flow, no recovery phrase needed. You may have to re-verify your identity before custodial features like Buy, Sell, and Swap come back, and a 2FA reset needs manual approval from Blockchain.com’s staff, which can take days rather than minutes.     One caution from the same support pages: resetting this password does nothing for a DeFi Wallet. If your missing coins sit in the DeFi Wallet, keep reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You forgot the DeFi Wallet password, but you have your 12 words<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Then today is the day this gets fixed. The recovery phrase outranks the password completely: it regenerates your private keys from scratch, password or no password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    On the Blockchain.com login page, choose ‘Login with Recovery Phrase’ and enter the 12 words in order. You’ll set a fresh password during the process. The phrase also works outside Blockchain.com: any wallet that supports the BIP39 standard (the shared word-list system most modern wallets use) can rebuild the same accounts, so you’re not tied to one company’s app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Type those words into the official website or app only. Never enter your recovery phrase into any site that reached you through an email or an ad, a phishing page that captures 12 words drains the wallet within minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    No phrase written down, but still logged in somewhere<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Use that session now. An active login is a temporary key that expires the moment the app logs you out or the device fails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Open the app or web wallet, go to the security or backup settings, and choose the option to back up your Secret Recovery Phrase. Write the 12 words on paper, check them twice, and store the sheet somewhere safe. From that point on, the forgotten password stops being a threat: you can restore with the phrase as described above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    No phrase, no session, but you remember parts of the password<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Not a closed door yet, though this is where the odds start depending on you. The DeFi Wallet is an encrypted file, and encrypted files can be attacked systematically: build a list of candidate passwords from what you remember, then test them one by one against the wallet data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The math is what decides it. A password you know nothing about, no length, no structure, no habits, sits in a search space too large for any computer. But if you remember the general shape, the candidates shrink from billions to a range that GPU-based software testing large volumes of combinations per second can genuinely work through. That’s the difference between guessing and searching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You’ll need your Wallet ID first; Blockchain.com can email you every Wallet ID linked to your address via the reminder option on its login page. Manual attempts through the login screen are safe and unlimited. For an automated search, this becomes professional territory, and it’s the scenario we handle most often for this wallet. Where the wallet format allows it, we work from the password hash extracted from the encrypted data, so recovery attempts run without anyone ever seeing your actual password.     When recovery is not possible<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Honesty first: if the 12-word phrase was never written down, no device is still logged in, and you remember nothing usable about the password, there is no way back into a DeFi Wallet. Not through Blockchain.com, the company holds no copy of your phrase or password, and not through any recovery service, whatever their ads claim. An unconstrained password search has no finish line, and a fully lost phrase cannot be rebuilt from nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We’d rather say that flat than let you pay someone for an attempt that can’t succeed. Be especially wary of anyone who promises success or asks for money upfront in this situation: legitimate recovery work never guarantees results, and blockchain transactions can’t be reversed by anyone, a claim to “hack it back” is a scam by definition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Protect the way back in<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Once you’re in, however you got in, spend ten minutes so this never repeats. Write the 12 words on paper (never in email, notes apps, or screenshots), store the sheet where fire and water can’t reach it, and consider a metal backup for anything long-term. Keep the new password in a password manager rather than your memory. Paper survives forgotten passwords; memory doesn’t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
