Seed Phrase Recovery for Missing, Misspelled or Mixed-Up Words
Seed phrase recovery is often possible when you have most of your words but not all of them. A missing word, a smudged word or a phrase written in the wrong order can usually be rebuilt, because every standard seed phrase carries a built-in checksum. If you know at least one address from the wallet, the odds get even better.
- Words never sent in plain text
- No recovery, no fee

5 Smart Seed Phrase Recovery Fixes
Match your situation to the right fix. The first two you can often do yourself.
A misspelled word
Every BIP39 word is unique by its first four letters. Compare unclear words against the official list and the correct one usually stands out.
Check the right wallet
Some wallets, such as Electrum, use their own seed format. A valid phrase entered into the wrong app shows an empty wallet, not an error.
One or two words missing
With one word gone, there are only a few thousand candidates. The checksum and a known address narrow it to the right one fast.
Words in the wrong order
A 12-word phrase has about 479 million possible orders. That sounds big, but with a known address it is a solvable search.
A forgotten passphrase
If you added an extra word, sometimes called the 25th word, the seed alone opens an empty wallet. We search for the passphrase instead.

Most wallets follow the BIP39 standard: 2,048 possible English words, with 12 or 24 of them making up your phrase. The final word contains a checksum, so most random guesses fail instantly. That is what makes partial seed phrase recovery realistic.
We test candidates on offline machines and check each valid phrase against the addresses you give us. A known address, an old transaction or even the wallet name cuts the time dramatically. You can view the official BIP39 English word list to check your own words.
Missing words vs typical outlook
| Situation | Outlook |
|---|---|
| 1 word missing or unreadable | Very good |
| 2 words missing, positions known | Good |
| 12 words, order unknown | Good with an address |
| 3 or more words missing | Case by case |
| 24 words, order unknown | Not feasible |
How We Keep Your Words Safe
Your seed words are the most sensitive thing you own. We never ask you to email, text or type them into a form. Instead we use a split method: known words travel separately and are only combined on an offline machine under NDA. When the job ends, everything is wiped. Read our full security promises.
Before You Contact Anyone
- Do not type your words into a website that claims to check them.
- Do not post a photo of your phrase, even with words covered.
- Do not share words with someone who messaged you first.
- Do not keep trying random words in a hardware wallet.
Seed Phrase Recovery FAQ
Can a lost seed phrase be recovered completely?
Not from nothing. If every word is gone and you have no wallet file or device, there is nothing to rebuild from. If you still have the wallet app or file, see password recovery instead.
Which wallets does this cover?
Ledger, Trezor, Trust Wallet, Exodus, MetaMask, Electrum and most BIP39 wallets. See our supported wallets.
How long does seed phrase recovery take?
One missing word can take minutes once the job starts. Unknown order or several missing words can take days to weeks.
