Gather old devices
Laptops, desktops, external drives, USB sticks and old phones from that period. Do not wipe or sell any of them.
Search for wallet files
Look for wallet.dat, .wallet, .key, .json or files with wallet in the name. Hidden application data folders are where most live.
Search your email
Look for messages from Blockchain.info, MyWallet, Coinbase or exchanges. Old wallet backups were often emailed.
Identify the software
The file type tells us which program made it. That decides how the wallet is opened and how its password is tested.
Collect password clues
Write down every password you used in those years. Early wallets often used the same habits as your email accounts back then.

Bitcoin was worth cents to a few dollars in its early years. Many people mined or bought a small amount, forgot about it, and changed computers. Those coins have not gone anywhere.
