Armory Wallet Recovery for Early Bitcoin Holders
Armory wallet recovery usually involves a .wallet file from the early bitcoin years and a passphrase that has faded from memory, or a paper backup with a line or two missing. Armory was built for serious security, so its encryption is deliberately slow to test. That makes your memory the most valuable tool we have. Start with the four ways below.
- .wallet files
- Paper backups
- No recovery, no fee
4 Proven Armory Wallet Recovery Ways
Find your paper backup
An Armory paper backup restores the wallet without any passphrase. Check safes, files and old folders.
Find unencrypted copies
Look for watching-only or older wallet files made before you set a passphrase.
Repair a partial backup
A smudged or missing character in a paper backup can often be corrected using its built-in checks.
Search for the passphrase
We run a focused, offline search using your passphrase habits from that time.
Why Armory Is Different
Armory protects wallets with a memory-hard key derivation, which makes each password guess slow and costly on purpose. Random guessing does not work. Armory wallet recovery succeeds when you can describe the passphrase: its root words, its length, how you added numbers or symbols.
The official Armory site has documentation on wallet files and paper backups.
What to Gather
- All .wallet files, including backups
- Paper backups and any SecurePrint codes
- Passphrase ideas from those years
- A bitcoin address from the wallet, if known
Armory often appears in old bitcoin wallet cases.
Armory Wallet Recovery FAQ
My paper backup has SecurePrint. What is that?
An extra code printed separately that protects the backup. You need it, or we need to recover it, to use the backup.
Can I open my Armory wallet in another app?
Armory uses its own format, so it is best handled with Armory tools on an offline computer.
How long does Armory recovery take?
Usually longer than most wallets because of its slow encryption. We give an estimate after the review.
Holding an Old Armory Wallet?
Armory wallet recovery starts with a free review.
